Cutting Board Care
What could possibly make a happy Chihuahua glare? Only a cutting board left wet. At Prime Bark, we want all your cutting boards to last a lifetime. The tips below will allow you to use and wash your boards as often as you like and keep them looking brand new.
These also apply to any other wood cutting or serving boards, wood handles on your utensils, wood countertops, bowls, etc.
Basic Guidelines
- Hand wash as frequently as you like but wipe it dry when done. Do not drip dry.
- Never place your board in a dishwasher or soak in standing water.
- Avoid leaving in direct sunlight, extreme heat, or extreme cold.
- Apply mineral oil periodically.
Why Mineral Oil?
- Food grade mineral oil protects all of your favorite wooden kitchen items like cutting boards.
- It is inexpensive and easy to order online.
- It penetrates wood, repels moisture, and protects wood fibers
- It prevents food-based liquids and therefor food odors from entering the board

Footies
All boards are shipped with your choice of footies. Rubber footies are common, but I've moved to using felt footies. It makes it easier to move a large cutting board by sliding it on a table top.
We generally ship cutting boards with the footies packed separately so customers can choose the side of the board they wish to use. Because all boards are infused with mineral oil and polished with beeswax, it will be necessary to prepare the footie contact spots on the board. Simply wipe a small area with rubbing alchohol or soapy water, dry it and apply the footies.
